| Abstract: |
I consider the stability of cosmic ray precursors near shocks propagating in a high-β plasma.
It is shown that the interplay between cosmic ray effects and the classical firehose and mirror instabilities lead to a more vigorous instability.
Consequences for cosmic ray acceleration are discussed. |
