Abstract: Galactic structure studies involve the manipulation of multivariate catalogues and their comparison with sophisticated synthesis models. Model parameter fitting must deal with multivariate data analysis while most existing methods use a binning procedure applied to one or two parameters only to extract informations. In this paper, we describe how to use multivariate density estimation to constrain the physical model parameters without binning, to detect systematic shifts between data and model and to accurately estimate the density of each population. This method can also be applied to a wide variety of astrophysical problems involving multivariate data.
