Abstract: We describe the discovery and subsequent spectroscopic follow-up of NGC 2363-V1, an extragalactic luminous blue variable. Photometrically, this star has been surprisingly stable for the past 8 years. Spectra obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope show however dramatic changes in the strength of the Balmer emission lines and the UV continuum. These observations suggest that V1 is currently experiencing a giant eruption.
