		| Abstract: |
Methods for measuring the mass distribution in elliptical galaxies are reviewed and an attempt is made to determine the dependence of the cumulative mass/light (M/L) ratio as a function of radius in several well-studied objects. In spite of problems with determining the mass as a function of radius in ellipticals, it appears that ellipticals show a much wider range of behavior of variation in M/L ratio with radius than do spiral galaxies of comparable luminosity. Methods of using higher order moments in velocity distributions to provide additional constraints on galaxy mass distributions are discussed briefly. |
