Abstract: Explore a real alien world today! In this session, Exoplanet Watch guided participants through the steps of how to get real science data directly in your email inbox, then process that data using free, professional tools right there on your computer, no install or special equipment required. We'll also tell you how you can contribute your results to a NASA pipeline to get credit for your results in others' scientific papers. From NASA's Universe of Learning, Exoplanet Watch is a community science program where anyone (yes, YOU!) can participate in meaningful exoplanet research through an authentic experience using the same tools used by NASA scientists. While this session will focus on walking participants through the basic level of getting archived data and processing it, know that being an Exoplanet Watcher can extend as far as you want. No matter your role in astronomy education, the Watchers can fit into your needs/background/interests. Are you an educator who needs an inspiring hands-on activity to teach students what doing science is really like? Are you an astrophotographer looking for a deeper, sustained application for your avocation? Are you a professional researcher who needs more precise exoplanet transit times for your work? Come join us! https://exoplanets.nasa.gov/exoplanet-watch/about-exoplanet-watch/overview/.

Exoplanet Watch straddles the worlds of education and professional science, so we'll also address using the program to educate and inspire everyday people to do real astronomy. While the session participants are running their data, there will be time for questions and discussions so you can ask the leader about their own experiences using Exoplanet Watch in their learning to get inspiration about how to use the program with your own students/audiences.
