		| Abstract: |
We have used Catalina Surveys variability data to study a sample of
 121 spectroscopically-confirmed high-latitude carbon stars drawn from
the literature. From their periods we estimate their distances. We
find that the great majority of these can be attributed to the tidal
tails of the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy, as represented by
the Law & Majewski (2010) simulation. However, our sample does not appear
across the full extent of this model, suggesting possible shortcomings,
especially near the predicted apocenter of the trailing arm. Other
carbon stars appear to be associated with other previously known
substructures, while a handful may indicate previously unknown features. |
