		| Abstract: |
Close binary central stars of planetary nebulae provide a valuable tool in our understanding of the evolution of stars
beyond the red giant branch and asymptotic giant branch. Here I summarize our current understanding of these
systems, including period distribution and the relationship
to other post-common envelope white dwarf systems. I also discuss the formation of white dwarf binaries with main sequence companions versus double white dwarf binaries. Finally, I describe the current state of a photometric search for new close binary central stars and some of the complications involved in interpreting the photometric data.
