		| Abstract: |
A network of ground based detectors of gravitational waves will
start operating in their advanced phase in about three years from now.
After briefly reviewing the scientific results which have been obtained
in past observational activities by LIGO and Virgo, the foreseeable
consequences of a detection of gravitational wave for astrophysics,
cosmology and fundamental physics are presented. |
