We present a new space plasma modeling framework based on a hexagonal spherical
geodesic grid, comprised of an MHD plasma multiple fluid solver and a cosmic-ray
 kinetic transport solver.
This report focuses on the MHD component designed to simulate flows of partially
ionized plasmas in and around the Sun's heliosphere.
A geodesic grid is an example of a uniform spherical tiling produced by a
recursive division of a base icosahedron.
The main benefit of the uniform solid angle coverage over spherical polar grids
is the reduced restriction on the global time step, improving computational
performance of both components of the code.
Two simple MHD calculations, a time-dependent evolution of corotating
interaction regions and a simulation of the large-scale structure of the
 heliosphere, are discussed. |
