		| Abstract: |
BF Cyg is a well-known symbiotic star which has been studied
extensively photometrically. However, its unusually rich optical
emission line spectrum has not received the detailed attention that
some other symbiotic stars have garnered. In summer 2006, BF Cyg
started into an unusually high brightening in the optical. We obtained
high dispersion spectra over the wavelength range of 3900 to 10000Å
with the 3.5-m echelle spectrograph at Apache Point Observatory. BF
Cyg has a very rich and complex emission line spectrum, which can be
characterized as low excitation. We also discuss the evolution of the
lines in our spectra over the six month period of our observations. We
note, Fe I in emission, which is a rare circumstance. We also discuss
the excitation mechanism which produces the Fe I lines. |
