		| Abstract: |
Variability is one of the most characteristic and longest-studied
features of AGB stars. Many aspects of AGB research from mass loss
to the determination of stellar parameters and atmospheric abundances
have to take variability effects into account for an appropriate
interpretation of observational results. However, details of these
influences are still not clear, and even the understanding of the
various kinds of variability observed is not complete. At the same
time, variability has the potential to serve as a diagnostic tool,
both for understanding the AGB phase and for studying the hosting
stellar populations. Here I give an overview on the various phenomena
of variability found, their interpretation and the future potential
of variability studies of AGB stars. |
