		| Abstract: |
Hypervelocity stars (HVSs) are stars escaping the Milky Way with speeds best
explained by a slingshot from the Galaxy's central massive black hole. 3-body
exchange interactions explain both the existence of HVS and the S-stars orbiting the
black hole today. I discuss the growing observational and theoretical support for
this picture, and highlight recent surprises, such as the anisotropic spatial
distribution of HVSs. The distribution of HVSs is linked to the nature and
environment of the Galactic Center. |
