		We review Japanese activities on space science missions for the study of stellar and planetary formation  with special emphasis on the SPICA (Space Infrared Telescope for  Cosmology and Astrophysics) mission and its impact on the study  of exoplanets. With a 3m-class telesope (3.5 m in the baseline design) cooled to 6K,  SPICA is optimized for mid- and far-infrared astronomy.  One of the  focal plane instrumets proposed for SPICA is a stellar coronagraph for  the study of exoplanets, protoplanetary and debris disks. SPICA’s  telescope has a monolithic structure and is expected to have smooth  point spread function, which should be a great advantage of  coronagraphy. SPICA is an international mission, and European  participation in SPICA is approved as a candidate for future missions  under the framework of ESA Cosmic Vision.
