		We perform two-dimensional, PSF-convolved bulge-disk decompositions in g, r, and i of a sample of 493,366 galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release Six. We compute the disk size function as a function of disk luminosity and characterize it through Gauss-Hermite expansions. The width of the size function increases by 50% towards fainter disk magnitudes, but it is still a factor of 1.4−2 narrower than theoretically predicted. The size function also exhibits highly significant deviations from log normality. In particular, 3.7% of the disks occupy a tail at large scale lengths, and these large disks are predominantly found in bulge-dominated galaxies. Their large sizes may come from angular momentum transfer in major merger events that form early-type galaxies. |
