| Abstract: |
The launch of the Spitzer Space Telescope has opened a heretofore untapped wavelength range for the study of ultracool dwarfs. Absorption bands of H2O, CO, CH4, and NH3 shape their emergent spectra from 3 to 15 μm and provide important insights into the chemistry and dynamics of ultracool dwarf atmospheres. In this contribution, I will review what has been learned to date from Spitzer spectroscopy of M, L, and T dwarfs. In particular I will discuss the tentative direct detection of the silicate clouds that form in the atmospheres of L dwarfs and the detection of non-equilibrium affects on the abundance of NH3. |
