		| Abstract: |
The re-ionization of the intergalactic medium that takes place at redshift greater than 5, when the first stars or active galactic nuclei ignite, may create a distinctive spatial and spectral signature in the radio background. Detection of a global signal might be measured in the near term with current technology and existing telescopes. Measurement of structures associated with the first pockets of ionization around stars requires a new telescope such as a Compact Lofar or SKA. |
