Abstract:	This paper describes the Core Instrument Control System for the Gemini 8m Telescopes Project. A large collection of instruments is being developed for Gemini by diverse groups in several countries throughout the world. In this paper I explain how the Core Instrument Control System can reduce the cost of developing control systems for those instruments by providing a common template that the instrument groups can build on.
