Abstract: The characteristics of stellar winds are reviewed in terms of their large-scale Galactic effects and local effects on H II regions and supernova remnants. The parameters of the stellar wind are listed including stars which lose mass, mass-loss rates, the velocities of stellar winds, and the wind energies of WR stars and stars of spectral types O and B. The global input of matter and energy by stellar winds is discussed by examining input data and calculating input rates. The local effects of stellar winds on the ISM are illustrated with the standard model of wind-blown bubbles and the effects of a cloudy medium. The total kinetic energy added to the ISM from the wind of an OB or WR star is similar to the energy from a type-II supernova. WR stellar winds are found to produce the most element enrichment and kinetic energy, and wind-blown bubbles affect the evolution of a subsequent supernova remnant.
