Abstract: The interacting binary system of Beta Lyrae is studied by means of a detailed analysis of the UV emission lines observed with IUE, and its wind properties are modeled using the Munich wind codes and a three-dimensional radiation transfer code designed to include the effect of stellar rotation. It is shown that the simultaneous presence of two winds, of different ionization and mass loss properties, each emitted by one of the component stars, can explain the observed features.
