Abstract: The P Cyg profiles of the UV resonance lines of C IV, N V, Si IV, and the subordinate lines of C III and N IV in the spectra of 26 O stars and one B supergiant have been analyzed by means of the SEI method. The profile fits are very accurate and show a significant improvement compared to previously obtained fits with the Sobolev method. The terminal velocities are smaller than derived from Sobolev fits by about 400 km/s. The observed values of v(infinity) are 40 percent smaller than predicted. This could be due to an overestimate of the masses derived from evolutionary tracks by about 30 percent or an error in the force multiplier parameters.
