Paper: Spectral Variations in Fading Episodes of Carbon Stars

Abstract: The J–type carbon star T Mus undergoes fadings at intervals of about three years, during which emission appears in the C2 bands and the strength and structure of the SiC2 bands change. The appearance of similar emission features in the C2 bands of carbon Miras suggests a connection between the fundamental-mode pulsations of the latter and the slow variations of T Mus, which is a semiregular variable.
