Abstract: A special wavelet transformation with a base function based on a Fast Rise-Exponential Decay (FRED) pulse is developed. Using BATSE 64ms total count data about half of the long (T50 ≥ 2s) bursts' lightcurves could be compressed with a ratio of 1:10 or better. The wavelet compression ratios show that > 320 keV lightcurves compress better than the lower energy counterparts which indicates that they are more FRED-like than the lower energy ones.
