Abstract: Convolutional Neural Networks have more than doubled in their usage in the astronomy literature every year since 2014. We briefly explain the structure of these image-processing neural networks and how they have been used in astronomy so far. We demonstrate how “transfer learning” can help us use these networks as a discovery machine for diffuse structures in astronomical imaging databases.
