Abstract: The VizieR service developed at CDS provides access to the largest collection of astronomical catalogues, with presently over 16,000 catalogues, and over a thousand new catalogues added each year. More than 10% of the collection is tagged as containing time series information, but this fraction exceeds 20% for recent catalogues. This trend is expected to go on, as more and more projects perform multi-epoch measurements. The heterogeneous nature of VizieR makes it very challenging to describe its contents, and to allow efficient queries for locating relevant datasets or retrieving data in homogeneous formats. We will describe what sorts of time series data are found in the published catalogues and papers (photometry, radial velocity,...), in which format they are available, and how we are trying to characterize them in the context of the Virtual Observatory projects to get the best scientific exploitation of this data mine.
