Abstract: We discuss the method of “ice mapping”, in which mid-infrared spectra toward multiple infrared sources located behind or in a molecular cloud core are combined to form a spatial map of the abundances of solid state species. As an example, we present an ice map of the F core in the Ophiuchus molecular cloud obtained using a combination of data from the c2d Spitzer Legacy program, VLT-ISAAC and ISOCAM-CVF. Future ice mapping projects using background stars are discussed.
