Abstract: The maximum brightness temperature that can be probed depends only on the maximum baseline length, and thus one of the advantages of space VLBI is its ability to measure brightness temperatures beyond the inverse Compton limit of 1012 K. In this paper, results from TDRSS-OVLBI observations and the VSOP mission are reviewed, and the impact of the VSOP-2 mission outlined.
