Abstract: The observed targets in the MESS guaranteed time key program for the Herschel Space Observatory (Groenewegen et al. 2011) typically consist of a bright central source surrounded by faint dust emission. We use HIPE for most of the data processing. We need to correct for the correlated noise, without eliminating the extended emission or influencing the photometry of the central star. In addition we carry out deconvolution to make the details in regions close to the central star visible.
