Abstract: Based on dynamic model atmospheres for Mira variables with carbon-rich atmospheric chemistry we have calculated synthetic spectra and photometry for standard broadband filters from the visual to the near-infrared. The modeling allows us to study in detail the influence of two effects characteristic of such objects: (i) the pulsation of the stellar interior, and (ii) the dusty circumstellar envelope resulting from an outflow containing grains of amorphous carbon. A comparison with observational data shows that the models used describe the outer layers of pulsating, mass-losing AGB stars reasonably well.
