Abstract: Continuous access to the Universe at vacuum ultraviolet wavelengths has been of tremendous importance to astronomy for the past 25 years. Unfortunately, no new missions are approved for this waveband. The situation has been exacerbated by the failure of the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS), which leaves FUSE (at the time of writing) as the only high resolution spectroscopic capability in the band. Nevertheless, plans are being developed for comparatively low cost, yet highly efficient instruments. If approved such facilities could be in orbit in a comparatively short time, filling the large time gap that must occur before any large optical/UV facility can be constructed. Two of these missions, the World Space Observatory and the UV and the Astrophysical Plasma Explorer in the EUV, are discussed here.
