Abstract: Phase referencing has proved to be a useful technique for astronomical ground-based VLBI. We successfully carried out Space–VLBI phase referencing observations for the first time, using VSOP at 5 and 1.6GHz, and we report here the astrometric results. We also made a direct measure of the orbit uncertainties. In addition we present a new calibration method for mm–VLBI astrometry, source/frequency phase referencing, valid under a wider variety of conditions than conventional phase referencing. Its requirements are compatible with the VSOP-2 mission specifications and would expand its capabilities.
