Abstract: We studied a sample of 28 periodically variable B supergiants discovered from HIPPARCOS. Our goal was to investigate a possible correlation between mass-loss and photometric variability in supergiants. We analyzed high resolution spectra of the sample stars gathered during several years, using the NLTE atmosphere code FASTWIND. The obtained fundamental parameters strongly suggest that the periodic variability is caused by non-radial gravity modes. We find only marginal evidence that the mass loss depends on the oscillation amplitude.
