Abstract: The results reported here reiterate the important point that there is no such thing as an extinction curve that can be characteristic of the dust in an entire galaxy. Galactic-type (CCM) extinction curves are seen in the Magellanic Clouds and Magellanic-Cloud-type, even SMC type extinction curves are seen in the Galaxy. Also, simple divisions based on parameters such as metallicity or density also do not seem to be helpful in determining the environmental processes that lead to certain extinction curve properties.
