Abstract: We report results of a comprehensive Monte Carlo simulation study of an eight-bin optimal least squares algorithm for fringe detection. We present a new bias-corrected estimator for squared visibility. We determine ranges of star brightness and initial delay offset for which the algorithm yields accurate bias-corrected estimates of delay and squared visibility. We validate analytic models for the estimator variances.
