Abstract: The nonlinear dynamics of magnetic flux tubes in the solar atmosphere is discussed. It is shown that the zero-order thin flux tube approximation, which is a major tool for both numerical and analytical treatment of nonlinear flux tube dynamics, neglects geometrical dispersion as well as leakage of waves due to wave radiation by the tube. Both effects depend on whether the tube is embedded in plasma with or without magnetic field. A plausible explanation of the origin of the chromospheric fine structure is proposed.
