Abstract: We illustrate through some examples of d Scuti stars observed by us simultaneously both spectroscopically and photometrically in recent campaigns (X Cae, FG Vir, BV Cir, HD101158, HD2724), how the two techniques can supply complementary information on the pulsational properties of these complicated multimode pulsators. We examine also some different techniques which can be used to unravel the rich information contained in the line profile variations. In particular the analysis of the first line moments, light and color curves allows to detect and type low l order modes, while a detailed study of the propagation of pulsational perturbations along the line profiles allows to detect high azimuthal order modes.
