Abstract: Spectroscopic parallaxes for 80 K giants in a bulge field at l, b = (10(deg) , -7.6(deg) ) have been measured. The metal--rich stars have distribution consistent with a barred bulge. The metal--poor stars, on the other hand, are consistent with an axisymmetric system, which is representative of the inner halo. It is argued that bulge and halo are different components.
