Abstract: We have examined data from the millisecond pulsar PSR 1257+12 in order to search for systematic changes in the pulse profile morphology. Such changes are expected in models that invoke precession of the neutron star spin axis to explain the observed periodicities in timing residuals. We have calculated difference profiles for each observing session by subtracting the observed profiles from a high SNR standard profile. The average noise-corrected modulation index of a11 difference profiles for PSR 1257+12 is 0.010. We compare our results for PSR 1257+12 with those of PSR 1534+12 and find similar levels of difference profile modulation. The most straightforward interpretation of our results is that low level structure in the difference profiles of PSR 1257+12 is due to noise, interference, or instrumental effects.
