Abstract: Implications of recent results are noted in the present evaluation of observational evidence and theoretical considerations on Galactic halo and disk component evolution. Such evidence and considerations on the history of star formation in the local disk and in typical Sc galaxies are both consistent with a simple model in which the star-formation rate is roughly proportional to the gas content. The variation of the star formation rate in such a model is moderate.
