Abstract: After describing the basic physics essential to the modeling of massive hot stars (MHSs), attention is given to recent results obtained through the spectral analysis of photospheric lines. The spectroscopic constraints on stellar evolution obtainable from the investigation of stellar wind lines are discussed, and a novel method for direct spectroscopic determination of stellar masses and radii is presented which employs the theory of radiation-driven winds. The diagnostic techniques described, in conjunction with advanced spectroscopic telescopes, will alloy metallicities of younger populations to be determined and the evolution of massive stars in different galactic environments to be studied.
