Abstract: Binary star systems are believed to play a critical part in influencing the dynamical evolution of star clusters, both during and after core collapse. The mechanisms through which binaries form in globular clusters are reviewed, and the processes whereby they affect their environment are discussed, along with some of the many approaches that have been used to study them. Soon, it will become both feasible and desirable to undertake detailed modeling of globular clusters on a star-by-star basis. Some recent and proposed advances in this area are outlined.
