Abstract: Spectral line broadening caused by the collective effects of pulsation, rotation, and turbulence is investigated in three Cepheids (Delta Cep, X Cyg, and SV Vul), measured by the CORAVEL instrument. It is shown that these measurements by themselves put strict upper limits on the rotation rates of these stars. No viable effects other than phase-dependent turbulence are found to account for the excess in the line broadening during the contraction phase. The effects of slow rotation on the pulsation characteristics are studied using hydrodynamic models.
