Abstract: Broad absorption-line (BAL) quasars show broad, blueshifted absorption lines in their spectra indicating the presence of high-velocity outflows along the line-of-sight. They are thought to be an important subclass that may showcase quasars in terms of some preferred part of parameter space. Several myths about the nature of BAL quasars have arisen in some quarters of the AGN community in recent years, based on analogy or circumstantial evidence, that are not necessarily true. I challenge these in light of recent observations.
