Abstract: We discuss the recent efforts which have been made to understand the formation of molecular clouds through the accumulation of diffuse material, a scenario sometimes called “colliding flows”. We present a set of statistics which have been inferred from these simulations and which seem to agree reasonably with observations seemingly suggesting that this scenario could indeed be applied to understand molecular cloud formation. We also emphasize the limits of this highly idealized model.
