Abstract: We introduce a new constrained transport (CT) scheme that advects magnetic field in a stable manner using proper upwind information in taking averages of electric fields. Alternatively, the conventional CT approaches that are based on 1D Riemann solvers would easily show instabilities in the problems we present in this paper. The proposed method is available in the USM-MHD solver (Lee & Deane 2009; Lee 2012) in the FLASH code of the University of Chicago.
