Abstract: The analysis of light and radial velocity curves yields accurate masses and radii of eclipsing binary systems. In the present paper, this technique has been applied to an eclipsing binary system in the Andromeda Galaxy (M 31), obtaining the first direct determination of masses and radii for individual stars in this galaxy. By combining this method with HST/ACS spectrophotometry for several eclipsing binary systems, we will be able to test, for the first time, evolutionary models in M31 and to determine its distance with an error of less than 5%.
