Abstract: With recent progress in atmospheric modeling and the availability of extensive spectroscopic observations, there have been significant advancements in our knowledge of the fundamental properties of massive stars. We highlight recent results for the galaxy, and the Magellanic Clouds, with particular emphasis on the effective temperature scale and mass-loss rates. Deficiencies in current spectroscopic analyses, such as the treatment of clumping, X-rays, magnetic fields and turbulence, will be highlighted as will the remaining conflicts between spectroscopic analyses and evolutionary calculations.
