Abstract: Accumulating observational evidence indicates that magnetic reconnection is a fundamental process in the solar lower atmosphere, which is responsible for many localized activities and the global maintenance of the hot dynamical corona. Meanwhile, qualitative theoretical considerations and quantitative numerical simulations demonstrate the applicability of the reconnection to a thin layer in the lower atmosphere. This paper reviews the research progress in the related observations, theories and numerical simulations.
