Abstract: We present results from the most ambitious hydrodynamic star formation calculation performed to date. The calculation follows the collapse and fragmentation of a large scale turbulent molecular cloud to form a stellar association consisting of dozens of stars and brown dwarfs. It resolves all fragmentation down to the opacity limit, binary stars with separations as small as 1 AU, and circumstellar discs with radii down to ≈ 10 AU. For the first time, the combination of high resolution and the large number of objects formed allows us to compare a wide variety of statistical properties with those observed in star forming regions.
