Abstract: We observed HCN (J=1-0) and 13CO (J=1-0) simultaneously toward the nuclear region and the disk of the nearby barred spiral galaxy NGC 253 and compared with 12CO (J=1-0) data. The HCN/13CO and HCN/12CO ratios are higher in the nuclear region than those in the disk, which indicates that the molecular gas in the nuclear region is dense and hot, while less dense in the disk, based on the one-zone large velocity gradient model. We also observed HCN and 12CO simultaneously along the major axes of nearby CO bright galaxies.
