Abstract: Most stars like the sun have stellar companions, and in some cases the orbits of the companions would interfere with the formation and/or survival of planets in stable orbits near the habitable zone. For some studies it is important to choose target stars with no known companions, but in other cases stellar companions can be tolerated if they have wide enough orbits. I will discuss the selection of optimum targets for various samples of interest.
